If Obsidian claimed that Murder on Eridanos’ release was delayed because of the time needed to write and record the script, you’d entirely believe it. This self-aware, sassy, sci-fi version of an interactive magnifying glass proves to be one of many brilliant characters in the DLC, and helps you trace Helen’s steps around Eridanos, shortly before her untimely death. You and your ragtag team of followers are drafted in to solve this sorry mess and given a new tool to help: the Discrepancy Amplifier. While this may turn off those who thrive on making their own destiny, this constraining approach to world-building pays off, and effortlessly combines that idiosyncratic mix of absurdity, horror, humour and bureaucracy unique to The Outer Worlds. ![]() The narrative is so carefully constructed that the only way to truly enjoy it is to surrender yourself to Obsidian’s direction. Obsidian Entertainmentįor the first couple of missions, you don’t really know what’s going on, and going off-piste to explore Eridanos won’t help. Eridanos is a pretty sight, but remarkably limited.
